I had an application which transmits packets to broadcast IP address 192.168.255.255, using UDP on port 12345. Now i have to send this data to multiple clients/PCs. Now, this server is connected to L2 switch, which is later connected to L3 switch. As we all know that L3 switches do not support broadcasting. So, in cisco L3 switch, i used command "ip helper address" on VLAN interface and in global mode i enabled the command "ip protocol-forward udp 12345". All the clients i had to add, i added them by repeating the command "ip helper address". It worked successfully. All of the clients were receiving the required data.
Now i have another server at another location, but the switches over there are juniper. Again, the server transmits at 192.168.255.255. So, on L3 juniper switch, on interface VLAN, i used the command "set forwarding-options helpers bootp interface vlan.999 server x.x.x.x"
In this area, the clients who are co-located and in the same VLAN as that of server, they are receiving the required data.
But, wen i give IP address of a client which is located in another location where we have cisco switches, this data does not reach this client. That is, i wana take this data from juniper site server to a client on cisco site.
My question is, do we have to open the udp port 12345 in juniper switches like i did in cisco? How to do it? Or is there any good way to accomplish the same?
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
